The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) announced today a multi-year partnership for naming rights to the LECOM Sports Park, formerly ERIEBANK Sports Park, located at 8159 Oliver Road in Erie. The new name was unveiled this morning during a ceremony at the park.
John M. Ferretti, D.O., president and CEO of LECOM, reaffirmed his organization’s commitment to the Erie region saying, “LECOM strongly believes in supporting community resources that enhance quality of life, and the LECOM Sports Park provides opportunities for athletes of all ages to learn, develop and compete on the ice or on the court. We look forward to the LECOM Sports Park continuing to be a regional asset for years to come.”
LECOM Sports Park includes two ice rinks and four basketball/volleyball courts, along with the Erie Sports Now fitness center. The facility attracts thousands of visitors annually as it hosts games, tournaments and other events for hockey, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, and more. The initial terms of the naming rights deal is for five years.
“We are so grateful to the Ferretti family and LECOM for their investment into our sports complex,” said Brian Lilly, partner with BBT Hockey who owns and operates the building. “This will help us continue our mission to provide a world class facility and improve lives through sports and entertainment.”
Another benefit to this partnership is the opportunity for underserved youth to use the facilities free of charge on special designated days.
With the renaming, a new logo replicating the shape of LECOM’s shield logo in the college’s blue and white colors was also unveiled. Along the top of the shield are four squares that represent the four foundational pillars of the school — education, community services, research, and clinical care. Five stars align the bottom of the logo signifying excellence in each area of teaching that LECOM provides — medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, podiatry, and masters programs.
