The City of Erie has promoted Jason Sayers to the position of Director of Public Works. Sayers has been working for the City since 1998 in the roles of Civil Engineer, Assistant City Engineer and most recently, City Engineer. Sayers was promoted to the position following the retirement of former Director of Public Works Charles R. Zysk.

LeAnn Parmenter has been promoted to Assistant Director of Public Works. Parmenter has been working for the City since 2006 in the roles of Traffic Engineer and most recently, Assistant City Engineer.

City of Erie Mayor Joe Schember stated, “Jason’s great wealth of experience in engineering, along with his years of experience with the City of Erie and his thoughtful, data-informed decision making, made him an excellent candidate for the Director position. LeAnn’s experience in traffic engineering and her mentoring ability will be an asset in the Department of Public Works. Jason and LeAnn have been a great team in the Bureau of Engineering. I look forward to working more closely with them, and I wish them all the best in their new roles as we continue to transform Erie. I would also like to thank Chuck Zysk for his dedication to the Public Works Department and his contributions to the City of Erie. Chuck has been an incredible leader of Public Works. His hard worth ethic, his commitment to quality, and his dedication to pursuing grants has had an enormous impact on the Department and the city. He has been a true public servant and has earned a restful retirement. We will be forever grateful for all that he has done for the community.”

The City of Erie Public Works Department oversees Engineering, Streets, Parks, Building Maintenance, the Municipal Garage, Special Events, the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Sewer Collections, Refuse, Recycling, Golf, and Stormwater.  Public Works affects the lives of all city residents on a daily basis. Whether you are driving your vehicle, enjoying a park, recycling and composting, using the restroom, or crossing the street, you are benefiting from the hard work of our dedicated Public Works crews. Most of the work that the Public Works does occurs behind the scenes, but there are times when their efforts are on full display during road reconstruction projects, stormwater relining projects, or plowing and winter maintenance. Whatever the task, the department prides itself on delivering high quality work while finding efficiencies, both operationally and cost-wise.
