Replaces Commissioner Gwendolyn White whose term expired
Mr. EJay Fyke was recently appointed to the Diverse Erie Commission by Erie County Councilman Rock Copeland and unanimously approved by Erie County Council.
“As we continue to move forward, we need the right people with a positive mindset and a good spirit that will continue to move the needle on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in Erie County — and EJay Fyke is definitely one of those people,” said Gary Lee, Chief Administrative Officer, Diverse Erie. “A dedicated public servant, Mr. Fyke understands what it takes, and I look forward to working with him as we strive to create an environment where all people of color are welcome and included.”
Mr. Fyke currently serves as Community Affairs Manager at Vesper Energy where he spearheads the development and execution of community outreach initiatives across five states and over a dozen counties. He also plays a pivotal role as a founding member of Vesper Energy’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, establishing policies and practices to foster inclusivity within the organization.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Fyke serves as Executive Director of Energize Erie, a nonprofit focused on the development of the city’s youth.
“DEI initiatives are necessary for any community to thrive — and while some progress has been made, there is still a lot more work that needs to be done in Erie County,” said Commissioner Fyke. “I take pride in serving my community, and I am honored to now serve on the Diverse Erie Commission.
“In this position, I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance equity, and continue to push out more initiatives that will serve as a catalyst for generational change for the BIPOC community.”
Commissioner Fyke is replacing Commissioner Gwendolyn White whose term had expired. Diverse Erie thanks Commissioner White for her experience, time, and knowledge in working to advance Diverse Erie’s mission and vision.
Commissioner Fyke will serve a four-year term, which expires on December 31, 2027.
