The Pennsylvania Western University Presidential Search Committee has invited three presidential candidates to visit the institution’s three campuses next week.

The candidates are, in alphabetical order, Dr. Jon Anderson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs/Professor at Southern Utah University (Cedar City, Utah); Dr. Philip Cavalier, Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at University of Tennessee at Martin (Martin, Tennessee); and Dr. Wade Weast, Founding Dean, College of the Arts at Georgia State University (Atlanta, Georgia).

“The search committee worked diligently through a robust applicant pool to identify three highly qualified and experienced leaders who are poised to lead our institution forward,” said Larry Maggi, search committee chair.

The 26-member search committee is composed of representatives of PennWest’s student body, faculty, staff, alumni and other stakeholders. Since beginning its work in January, the committee has gathered input from a wide range of university constituencies and reviewed 35 applications and conducted 11 interviews.

The campus visits provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and community members to meet each of the candidates and provide feedback. Details on the campus visits are posted on the presidential search webpage:  https://www.pennwest.edu/president-search

Following all of the campus visits, the search committee will meet to review the feedback and formalize its recommendation to the PennWest Council of Trustees, which will make the final determination of the two names submitted to the Board of Governors. The anticipated start date for the new president is July 1, 2024.
