Wabtec-sponsored meeting to take place June 13 in Erie, Pennsylvania
If you care about expanding passenger rail between Ohio and Chicago and the East Coast, this is a “must attend” event!
Amtrak’s director of government affairs, Derrick James will discuss Amtrak’s five-year, $300 million plan to improve train stations and other infrastructure in the Great Lakes region at the Lakeshore Rail Summit, June 13 in Erie, PA.
James will be joined by speakers from Wabtec, Virginians for High Speed Rail, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), and the Lakeshore Rail Alliance. The Summit will begin at 1 p.m. in the H.O. Hirt Auditorium, 160 E. Front St. in Erie.
Grace Gallucci, Executive Director and CEO of NOACA, will explain why passenger rail is important for our region and how it fits in NOACA’s vision.
Danny Plaugher, Executive Director, Virginians for High Speed Rail, will share recent rail successes in Virginia and how they could be replicated here.
Ed D’Amato and Bill Hutchison, co-chairs, Lakeshore Rail Alliance, will describe how rail enhances mobility for the region, and share their vision for a rail-based transportation system.
Summit sponsor Wabtec will emphasize the importance of passenger rail expansion to companies like Wabtec and the communities they reside in.
“Like many cities across the United States,” said Hutchison, “Erie is a transportation desert. Our vision for the entire Lakeshore corridor route is to turn those deserts into transportation oases. And we know that in the 21 st Century, rail will be an essential part of that solution.”
