The Erie Sports Commission’s Facility Matching Funds Program was established in 2018 to provide grant funding to Erie County facilities capable of hosting sporting events that generate tourism. A dollar-for-dollar match is provided for approved facility improvements.

“The availability of quality venues is paramount to the continued success of sports tourism in Erie County,” said Mark Jeanneret, executive director of the Erie Sports Commission. “The fact that we have seen a record number of applicants each of the last three years confirms that there’s a need for this grant program. We are very happy to play a small role in the completion of projects that not only support sports tourism but also provide improved facilities and equipment for our community to utilize.”

Sinai Sports was awarded $10,000 to purchase ninja equipment that will allow the facility to host large events, competitions and head-to-head elimination tournaments.

ASCEND Erie was granted $7,000 to support additional climbing infrastructure that will assist future climbing events and competitions. In addition, the funding will support the growth of the venue’s youth climbing team, competitive climbing program and community-based competition circuit.

Papa’s Sports Warehouse in Corry was awarded $7,000 for interior upgrades that will provide the ability to host events and youth sporting activities.

Eastland Bowl received $3,000 to upgrade the interior of the facility in preparation to host the 84th Annual PA USBC Open Championships in addition to future bowling tournaments.

Hagerty Family Events Center received $3,000 towards the purchase of gymnasium floor runners that will cover areas near the east bleachers.
