The expERIEnce Children’s Museum is thrilled to announce a new partnership with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to enhance educational opportunities and promote health awareness within the Erie community. This exciting partnership is inaugurated with UPMC Children’s sponsorship of the Nursery exhibit at the museum.
UPMC Children’s sponsorship brings valuable resources and expertise to the Nursery exhibit, aiming to educate children on the importance of regular doctor checkups through interactive play. New additions to the exhibit include baby scales, stethoscopes, reflex hammers, lab coats, and checkup lists. These manipulatives provide children with a hands-on experience, allowing them to perform checkups on baby dolls staying in the expERIEnce Children’s Museum nursery.
The Nursery exhibit now features educational signage and detailed checkup lists, guiding young visitors through the process of a medical checkup. This engaging setup not only fosters imaginative play but also helps children become familiar with medical tools and the routine of a health checkup, reducing anxiety around doctor visits and promoting the significance of health maintenance from a young age.

In addition to the Nursery exhibit, UPMC Children’s and the expERIEnce Children’s Museum are planning to extend their partnership to offer various health and wellness classes. These classes will focus on encouraging healthy lifestyles and will be available to families throughout the Erie community, furthering the mission of both organizations to improve community health and education.
“UPMC Children’s has a large presence in Erie, through UPMC Children’s Express Care-Erie, UPMC Children’s Specialty Care Center Erie, pediatric emergency care services, UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics and our new Children’s inpatient pediatric unit at UPMC Hamot,” said Dale King, M.D., medical director, Pediatric Services, Northwest PA & Western New York. “As we continue to grow and deliver quality world-class care close to home, partnerships like this are so important. We see the increase in the demand for pediatric care and education in this region, and we are committed to meeting that need and demand for these families.”
