The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA) has donated one of its vehicles to the Millcreek Police Department (MPD). The bus will be used as a mobile command center to replace the outdated box truck used previously.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support received from the community to help us better serve the area with a safer and more effective response,” said MPD Cpl. Joe Makowski.
The bus is operational and detailed through additional donations from American Legion Post 773, St. Francis Ushers Club, Engine 39 and RAS Auto Body. The bus is awaiting further upgrades for use as a mobile command center. These include a dedicated space for negotiators, additional technology and improvements to be used as an emergency response vehicle for citizens in the area.
The previous mobile command center had become unreliable and needed replacement. It was used in several calls throughout 2023 and was instrumental in officer and civilian safety.
“Millcreek and its citizens have always greatly contributed to EMTA’s ridership as one of the larger areas EMTA serves within Erie County,” said EMTA CEO Jeremy Peterson. “EMTA is proud to help support a partnering municipality with this donation.”
Millcreek Township thanks all parties that helped this bus become a community safety asset.
