Will explain Pa.’s Clean Slate Law, pardons, expungement
Residents with prior nonviolent misdemeanors seeking to reenter the job market will find helpful information at a Second Chance Event co-hosted by state Rep. Bob Merski on Tuesday, July 30.
The event – which will feature a discussion on pardons, expungement and the state’s Clean Slate Law – will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Ryan Hall’s Waterford Room at Mercyhurst University, 501 E. 38th St. Attendees should enter on Lewis Avenue.
“Pennsylvania has been at the forefront of assisting individuals with nonviolent convictions to re-enter the job market,” stated Merski. “A few years back, we implemented an unprecedented Clean Slate Law that permits Pennsylvanians with nonviolent misdemeanor convictions to have their records sealed, provided they make restitution and remain trouble-free for a decade.
“However, not all convictions are eligible for the clean slate, which is why it’s crucial for people to know their options. I encourage anyone seeking a fresh start to attend our event, which will feature a comprehensive discussion and a question-and-answer session on pardons, expungement, and the Clean Slate Law.”
Merski is hosting the event in partnership with Mercyhurst University, Northwestern Legal Services, the Erie County Clerk of Courts, the Erie District Attorney’s Office and the Erie Pardon Project.
Merski said anyone with questions should call his office at 814-455-6319.
