Educational scholarships awarded during GEEDC’s 50th anniversary

The Greater Erie Economic Development Corporation (GEEDC) announced its fall semester scholarships today. Scholarships totaling $59,000 will support 23 new and returning students during the 2024-25 academic year.

GEEDC’s scholarships support the education of the selected students for four years pending academic standing. They are all from diverse backgrounds and demographics in the Erie area.

“Erie’s growth is enhanced when students complete post-secondary education and bring their education back home to Erie,” said GEEDC CEO Gerald Blanks, “GEEDC was established 50 years ago as a catalyst for change. These transformational investments allow students to transcend obstacles and achieve their dreams. When Mr. Wiley envisioned GEEDC 50 years ago, this is what he imagined.”

The GEEDC scholarship program helps students transcend barriers and obstacles and create pathways for success that might not otherwise exist for disadvantaged populations. This investment in the Erie community helps to create equitable outcomes and a more educated and prosperous community.

The next round of scholarships will open in Spring 2025 to support the 2025-26 academic year. For more information, including the date on the new scholarships, follow GEEDC on Facebook, Instagram, or X @geedc.1974.
