Due to a planned Republican Party-political rally at the Bayfront Convention Center on Sunday, September 29, 2024, the City of Erie Police Department is encouraging motorists who are not attending the rally avoid the West Bayfront Highway and consider alternate routes between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4 p.m. due to heavier than usual traffic, anticipated delays, and sudden road closures. The West Bayfront Highway will be closed from Noon until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Members of the public who are attending the rally are urged to arrive no later than 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. PennDOT traffic map updates are available at www.511pa.com.

There will be enhanced security measures including patrolling Erie Police Department officers by vehicle, on foot, and on bicycles to ensure a strong and visible presence throughout the event. Erie Police are working closely with the U.S. Secret service, State, local law enforcement partners and PennDOT to minimize disruptions to the public while ensuring the highest level of safety and security during the event.

The Erie Police Department also reminds all attendees and motorists to be mindful of safety and stay on sidewalks while walking, adhere to traffic regulations, and avoid blocking roadways.
