Friday morning in Pittsburgh, Republican Dave McCormick gave a victory speech, declaring his win over incumbent Democratic Senator Bob Casey for the highly-contested US Senate seat in Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, vote counts continued in Cambria County, which were assumed to favor McCormick. Also, county election offices across the Commonwealth were reviewing provisional and segregated ballots. On Thursday, a few news outlets called the close race for McCormick, while others hadn’t made the call by Friday afternoon.

In his remarks, McCormick expressed gratitude for Sen. Casey’s years of service to the Commonwealth. He stated, “we need to move forward on the people’s business.”

For his part, Sen. Casey had not conceded the race as of Friday afternoon, and indicated that provisional ballots in Philadelphia County could be consequential in the race. The statewide vote count Friday afternoon had McCormick’s lead greater than the 0.5% margin to trigger a recount.
