As the recent heavy snowfall begins to melt, Erie County officials are reminding residents to be vigilant about the potential risks associated with increased weight on roofs. With the added strain, the County has received and increase in reports of roof collapses, posing serious safety hazards.
Residents are encouraged to take proactive measures:
- Safely remove snow: Use a roof rake to clear snow from your roof, but only if it is safe to do so from the ground.
- Seek professional assistance: If clearing your roof is beyond your capability, contact a qualified contractor to help prevent damage and reduce risks.
“As the snow melts, the risk of roof damage increases significantly,” said Erie County Executive Brenton Davis. “Taking preventative steps now could save your home and ensure the safety of your family.”
