UDDATE – Dec. 26, 2024: The Borough of North East would like to announce that the Water Boil Advisory that was issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) on Friday, December 20, 2024 has been effectively lifted as of Thursday, December 26, 2024. The Borough has complied with all of the mandates of the Field Order issued as a result of slight tears in the finished water cover at Fairchild Reservoir. The cover has been repaired and certified, the reservoir has been evacuated and the entire distribution system has been flushed. The Borough continued to monitor its water quality prior to, during and after this advisory and has produced clean test results certified by an accredited laboratory. The Borough would like to assure its residential, commercial and industrial customers that delivering quality water remains our top priority. North East Borough is issuing a Boil Water Advisory effective immediately for all residential, commercial and industrial customers of the North East Borough Water system.
On December 20, 2024, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) issued a Field Order requiring the boil water advisory to the North East Borough Water Department as a result of a PADEP scheduled filter plant inspection. PADEP noted tears and standing water on the floating cover at Fairchild Reservoir which provides finished water for North East Borough and North East Township. The cover is scheduled for repair and replacement as soon as possible and water has been and is being tested daily and to date there have been no exceedances of numerical limits. Customers will be notified when the boil water advisory has been lifted and the boiling of water is no longer required.
