United Way of Erie County Announces Retirement of President, Laurie Root,Welcoming Mike Jaruszewicz as Successor
United Way is pleased to announce the promotion of Mike Jaruszewicz to Executive Vice President for the organization, effective January 1, 2025. Mike previously served as United Way’s Senior Vice President, Community Impact.
Additionally, the Board of Directors approved a succession plan in December that will have Mike assuming the role of President/CEO of the organization on January 1, 2026. The current President/CEO, Laurie Root, will retire at the end of 2025.
Both Mike and Laurie have been with United Way since 2010, serving in roles with increasingduties and responsibilities. Mike began his tenure as a Campaign Representative and thenmoved into the Community Impact Department, beginning at the manager level and most recentlyserving as SVP, Community Impact.
“We are extremely grateful to Laurie for the transformative impact she’s had on United Way and our community,” stated Katie Jones, United Way’s Board Chair. “Her leadership has positionedthe organization to effectively and thoughtfully work toward the mission of crushing povertythrough the nationally recognized Community School Model,” she continued.
Mike and Laurie will work closely together in 2025 to assure a smooth transition to new leadership. Mike has been instrumental in the implementation of the Community School Model in Erie County and has become a nationally recognized expert on community schools.
“Mike has played a critical role in United Way’s success as an important part of the leadership team and he has contributed to the strategic vision for the organization during his tenure. We aregrateful for Laurie’s leadership and contributions and look forward to continued community impactas Mike takes on this new role,” concluded Katie.
