On February 9, 2025, at 7:25 AM, the Millcreek Township Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 500 block of Zephyr Avenue. The first Engine arrived on scene at 7:31 AM with a crew of four firefighters, followed by a second Engine at 7:33 AM with a crew of five.

Upon arrival, crews found the home heavily involved in fire, with flames showing from the windows and doors on the Alpha, Bravo, and Delta sides. Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack and conducted a primary search of the residence. Tragically, one male occupant and at least one dog were found deceased as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and the Millcreek Police Department. The Erie County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, and the Erie Humane Society assisted with the care of the deceased dog.

Fire crews from multiple agencies, including Lake Shore Fire Department, West Lake Fire Department, West Ridge Fire Department, Kearsarge Fire Department, and the Millcreek Township Paid Firefighters, assisted in the response. A total of 31 firefighters were on scene.

The fire was brought under control, and crews remained on location until clearing the scene at 11:34 AM. The residence to the south sustained siding damage due to radiant heat. No firefighter injuries were reported. All utilities to the affected structure have been disconnected.

A fire hydrant was located in the front yard of the home, allowing crews quick access to water for suppression efforts.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family affected by this tragic loss. The Millcreek Township Fire Department urges all residents to ensure they have working smoke detectors in their homes—one on every floor and in every bedroom—to provide early warning in the event of a fire.
