The Erie’s Public Schools Board of Directors has selected Dr. Natalyn Gibbs as the district’s next superintendent following an extensive national search. She will officially assume the role on July 1, 2025, with her transition beginning on April 1.

Dr. Gibbs brings strong leadership experience, a commitment to student success, and a history of fostering collaboration among educators, families, and community partners. She was selected from a competitive pool of candidates after a thorough hiring process that included input from teachers, staff, students, and families.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Gibbs as our next superintendent,” said Dr. Jay Breneman, President of the Erie’s Public Schools Board of Directors. “Her leadership aligns with the progress we’ve made, and we’re confident she will continue strengthening our schools by working alongside our educators, staff, and families.”

As part of her transition, Dr. Gibbs will work closely with current Superintendent Brian Polito, the Board, and district leadership to ensure a smooth leadership handoff. Over the next few months, she will visit schools, meet with staff and families, and engage with the Erie community.

Dr. Gibbs takes the helm as the district builds on recent progress in stabilizing school funding, expanding resources, and addressing long-overdue facility improvements.

“I am deeply grateful to Dr. Breneman, Board President, and the Board of Directors for their leadership throughout this process. It is with immense gratitude and excitement that I accept the position of Superintendent for Erie’s Public Schools,” Dr. Gibbs said.

“My passion lies in empowering students to discover their unique talents and pursue their dreams. I believe that strong schools are the heart of a thriving community, and I am eager to partner with students, families, educators, and the entire Erie community to provide our students with the resources and opportunities they need to flourish. Together, we will build on the district’s existing strengths and create a truly exceptional educational experience for all.”

In the coming weeks, Erie’s Public Schools will share opportunities for students, staff, and families to meet Dr. Gibbs and participate in discussions about the district’s future.

“We are committed to ensuring a smooth and transparent transition,” said Dr. Breneman. “Dr. Gibbs is eager to connect with the community and build on the foundation we’ve created.”
