Bizzarro’s team to search PA Treasury database, recover lost items

State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro and his team will host his Pot O’ Gold Treasury Hunt from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 14 at his district office in Millcreek Township. Bizzarro’s team will help residents search the PA Treasury database for unclaimed property and file the paperwork needed to recover lost items.

“We want to cut the red tape, and remove one more hassle during your day,” Bizzarro said. “We will make sure you get what’s rightfully yours. We’ve recovered balances from closed or long-forgotten bank accounts and even misplaced paychecks, property that often goes missing because of simple clerical errors like a misspelled name or outdated address.”

Bizzarro’s district office is at Peninsula Plaza, 1101 Peninsula Dr., Suite 213, Erie, PA 16505.

A representative from the PA Treasury will join Bizzarro’s team to help provide service for residents, free of charge, filing the paperwork needed to recover unclaimed property. Last session, Bizzarro introduced measures to modernize the treasury, to make it easier for residents to recover their property and belongings.

Bizzarro’s MATH Act, or Modern Access to Treasury & Housing Act, included the Unclaimed Property Progress that would mandate the return of all property worth $10,000 or less to any owner whose contact information can be verified. Currently, the claims process varies on what documentation is required depending on who is claiming the property and what type of property is being claimed. Meanwhile, the state continues to accumulate unclaimed property.

The PA Treasury safeguards more than $4 billion in unclaimed property, with an estimated 1 in 10 state residents having some type of unclaimed property in state hands.

If residents are unable to attend Friday’s event, they are encouraged to visit or contact Bizzarro’s office at 814-835-2880 for assistance in searching and recovering their unclaimed items and property. No appointment is necessary. The Millcreek office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A satellite office in the Fairview Township Building is also open on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
