Registration is now open for the event on April 5, 2025, at AHN Saint Vincent Cancer Institute

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute will host its monthly Saturday cancer screening clinic on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at AHN Saint Vincent Cancer Institute, 2508 Myrtle St., Erie, Pa. 16502.

Registration opens today, March 13, 2025, to AHN and non-AHN patients. Those interested in attending must make an appointment by calling 814-452-5960. Patients with or without insurance are encouraged to attend the screening clinic.

This one-day clinic offers a convenient opportunity to receive several critical cancer screenings in a single visit. Available screenings include:

  • Breast cancer (ages 40-74)
  • Cervical cancer (ages 21-65)
  • Colorectal cancer (ages 45-75)
  • Head and neck cancers (ages 18+)
  • Lung cancer (ages 50-80 with a history of cigarette smoking)
  • Prostate cancer (ages 45-75)
  • Skin cancer (ages 18+)

Two events were held at AHN Saint Vincent in 2024, drawing 161 attendees who received 375 screenings. Of those screenings, 76% provided normal results and 24% yielded abnormal results.

April is recognized as Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, raising awareness for cancers within the mouth, nose, throat, and salivary glands. In 2025, the American Cancer Society estimates that 59,660 new cases of oral cavity and pharynx cancer will be diagnosed in the United States, with 12,770 deaths associated with the disease. Incidence rates of head and neck cancer are nearly three times higher in men than in women.

“A significant hurdle in head and neck cancer treatment is the pervasive misconception that these cancers only affect smokers and heavy drinkers,” said Warren Swegal, MD, chairperson and surgical lead of head and neck cancer at Allegheny Health Network. “The reality is far broader – HPV infection, genetics, and even long-term exposure to the sun can all play a role.”

AHN will host another cancer screening event at Saint Vincent on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, and at other AHN locations throughout Western Pennsylvania throughout the remainder of the year.

The AHN Cancer Institute has been offering one-stop comprehensive cancer screenings since 2014. The program’s success, and the growing need for prevention and early detection in the region, have led to the cancer screening program being offered monthly on Saturdays across Western Pennsylvania for the last four years.
