The Erie County Department of Health (ECDH) is currently investigating a confirmed case of measles in an Erie County child.
ECDH staff are completing contact tracing in coordination with the facilities listed below. Identified individuals are in the process of being contacted and notified of potential exposure to measles and assessed for vaccination status and risk for infection.
People who were at any of these locations during the identified time periods may have been exposed:
- UPMC Children’s Express 3330 Peach Street #106, Erie PA 16508 From March 28, 2025 5:45PM until March 28, 2025 at 9:00PM/Close
- Creative Learning Childcare 2312 West 15th Street, Erie, PA From March 25 Opening to March 27 Closure
- Fitness U-Entering through Creative Learning Entrance 2312 West 15th Street, Erie, PA From March 25 Opening to March 27 Closure
Measles virus can remain in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the area. If someone breathes in the contaminated air or touches an infected surface and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth, they can become infected.
People who are fully immunized are at very low risk of contracting measles. If you are unsure of your vaccination status contact your health care provider.
Individuals born before 1957 are considered to have immunity, as they were likely exposed during childhood.
Regardless of vaccination status we recommend monitoring for signs and symptoms of measles for up to 21 days after exposure. Measles symptoms include:
- High fever
- Cough
- Rash
- Red watery eyes
- Runny nose
If symptoms develop, stay at home and call a health care provider immediately.
If you suspect that you or your child have measles and wish to seek care, please call your health care provider, or hospital emergency room before leaving home. Health care providers should report suspected cases of measles immediately to ECDH at 814-451-6700 during or after business hours.
Individuals or families that might be impacted by the above listed locations can contact ECDH at (814) 451-6707 on 3/30/25 until 9:00pm and between 8:00am and 8:00pm 3/31/25.
