The Fairview Township Water and Sewer issued the following advisory Monday:
Fairview Township Water Authority District 3 (former Borough Area) did not meet treatment technique requirements. We are required to maintain a disinfectant residual of 0.40 mg/L in the water supplied by consumers. Water samples taken on 4-7-2025 showed a disinfectant residual concentration on 0.10 mg/L, which constituted a breakdown in treatment. As a result of this breakdown in Treatment, there was a risk that the water may have contained disease-causing organisms.
What Should I do?
Do not Drink the water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
What is being done?
To correct the issue, the gas chlorination system was rebuilt to ensure gas chlorine is being fed properly to the proper dosage. We are also taking steps to fix our call out alarm system to notify employees of issues immediately. PA DEP has been contacted.
