Erie County is reporting two additional confirmed cases of measles in Erie County residents. These cases were identified as direct exposures to the person reported as positive on March 30, 2025. Since these three cases are epidemiologically linked, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines these cases as an outbreak.

Due to contract tracing and quarantine measures implemented with people who had been exposed, Erie County Department of Health (ECDH) does not have reason to believe there is a high risk of community spread or exposures in relation to these cases.

ECDH staff are completing contact tracing in coordination with the facility listed below. Identified individuals are in the process of being contacted and notified of potential exposure to measles and assessed for vaccination status and risk for infection.

In an effort to ensure all potential contacts are aware of this exposure, people who were at this location during the identified time may be at risk if not immune to measles.

Saturday, April 5, 2025 between 5:30PM and 9:00PM

Individuals who were at this location during the time of exposure should monitor for symptoms of measles until April 26, 2025. Individuals who are fully vaccinated are 97% less likely to contract the virus and infect others. Those who are unvaccinated or unaware of their vaccination status should call ECDH at 814-451-6707.

Measles starts with a high fever and cough, often followed by red watery eyes, runny nose and a rash beginning at the hairline and spreading over the face and body. Additional information about measles symptoms and spread can be found at www.eriecountypa.gov/departments/health/health-now/

Due to increased community interest and the importance of immunization, ECDH is working to provide a mobile Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine clinic. Any person 18 years of age or older is eligible to receive the MMR vaccine at this event. Pre-register by visiting: www.eriecountypa.gov/departments/health/health-now/ or by calling 814-451-6707.
