It is with deep regret that the Millcreek Township Fire Department announces another fatal residential structure fire that occurred earlier this afternoon in the 4400 block of South Park Lane.
At approximately 1:50 PM, Millcreek Fire Department was dispatched for a reported structure fire. The Engine company arrived on scene within five minutes, at 1:55 PM, and confirmed a working fire with smoke and flames visible. Crews from Millcreek Fire Department, along with Volunteer personnel from West Ridge, West Lake, and Kearsarge Fire Departments, responded swiftly and aggressively. In total, approximately 30 firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.
The fire extended to a neighboring residence, which sustained significant fire damage. Thanks to the rapid response and coordinated actions of all personnel, the adjacent structure was saved from total loss.
Tragically, one individual lost their life in the fire. Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with the family during this incredibly difficult time. The Erie County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and will release the identity of the deceased following their investigation and notification of next of kin.
One firefighter sustained minor burns and was treated and released on scene.
The Millcreek Fire Department has requested the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and the City of Erie’s K9 unit. These agencies are working collaboratively with Millcreek Police to determine the cause and origin of the fire. At this time, the cause remains under investigation.
On this day of hope and renewal, Resurrection Sunday, we are especially reminded of the fragility of life and the strength found in community and faith. We ask the community to keep the affected family and all first responders in their thoughts and prayers.
