Today, Governor Shapiro announced the investment of $242.8 million for 32 drinking water and wastewater projects across 23 counties through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).
The Erie Water Works received a $9,585,100 grant and a $414,900 low-interest loan for the replacement of 1,250 customer service lines in the City of Erie. These lines were connected to lead goosenecks and must be replaced as required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This funding award will expand Erie Water Works’ nationally recognized Lead Pipe Replacement Program.
“In Pennsylvania, the Erie Water Works has received the second most funding to eradicate lead piping from Erie’s regional water system. This new funding offer helps to strengthen our commitment to Get the Lead Out”, said Craig Palmer, CEO of the Erie Water Works.
Palmer added, “This historic funding assistance provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity for our utility, helping to keep rates as affordable as possible for our customers.”
