The Erie Water Works is proud to join communities across North America in celebrating Drinking Water Week, an annual observance led by the American Water Works Association. Taking place May 4th to the 10th, Drinking Water Week highlights the importance of safe drinking water and recognizes the tireless efforts of the water professionals who keep it flowing around the clock in the Erie Region.
The Erie Water Works is observing Drinking Water Week with notable events that include the following:
1. Monday, May 5th to Friday, May 9th, there will be fun educational content and promotional items like stickers and water bottles in the main lobby of the Administration Building, 340 W. Bayfront Parkway.
2. Monday, May 5th – The new #TAP814 branded refillable drinking fountain in the Administration Building Lobby will be unveiled. #TAP814 is a new community wide campaign to raise awareness about the benefits of tap water and to promote the use of refillable water bottles to avoid the environmental and health consequences of bottled water. The Erie Water Works will be working with local partners in the future to place these at key locations throughout our community. Find out more at eriewater.org/TAP814
3. Thursday, May 8th at 10 a.m. – With a focus on protecting our water source, and in concert with Keep PA Beautiful, the Erie Water Works will be installing a litter boom on the Myrtle Street outfall leading to Presque Isle Bay. The litter boom will capture floating debris that otherwise would have entered the Bay and Lake from the storm sewer drains. Water works employees will be doing a beach cleanup between the Administration Building and the Myrtle Street outfall. Protecting waterways, lakes and oceans is critically important for a sustainable future.
4. Friday, May 9th – The Erie Water Works will have a table set up at the Erie Seawolves game to engage with customers and give away some fun water-related prizes to cap off the week. CEO Craig Palmer will be throwing out the first pitch of the game.
Safe, reliable drinking water is critical in many ways, including public health, economic prosperity and high quality of life. The 2024 Water Quality Report is now available online at eriewater.org. The Erie Water Works meets or exceeds all Federal and State drinking water standards, and is proud to be the regions water supplier, providing World-Class Water and First-Class Service®.
