As PennDOT announced on July 7, work on the Bayfront Parkway Central Corridor Project is progressing into Phase 2B, which will necessitate the closure of State Street from Second Street to the Parkway, beginning July 21, 2025.
To accommodate this closure, in the interest of community access, public safety, and response times, the City of Erie will be implementing the following traffic detours and parking restrictions beginning July 14, 2025. This notice will give drivers some time to prepare.
- The Sassafras Street Extension, which runs from the West Bayfront Parkway to Front Street, will be closed. It will only be usable by Emergency Vehicles.
- West 3rd Street from Peach Street to Sassafras Street will be converted from one-way to two-way traffic, with no parking on both sides of the street.
- There will be no parking on the following roadways:
- West 2nd Street from Peach Street to Sassafras Street.
- East 3rd Street from French Street to Holland Street.
- Holland Street from East 3rd Street to East 6th Street.
Temporary pedestrian access along State Street is planned for August 21 to 24, 2025 to accommodate the expected increase in foot traffic during the Tall Ships Erie Festival.
