As the leaves begin to fall, we want to remind residents about the appropriate methods for leaf and compost pick-up.

For Leaves – Compostable (pale green) plastic bags that meet ASTM D6400 standards for compostability may be used. Open hard containers may also be used for leaf collection.

  • DO NOT use cardboard boxes or any other non-compostable refuse or recycling bag.
  • DO NOT rake or blow leaves into city streets. This creates a hazardous situation for cars, motorcycles, cyclists, walkers, and runners. Wet leaves can cause slippery conditions. Cars parked over dry leaves can catch fire.
  • DO NOT put pet waste or cat litter in with leaves.
  • DO NOT put grass and leaves in refuse.

For Compost – Only use open hard containers (50 lb. limit) or compostable brown paper (lawn & leaf) bags. Acceptable compost includes grass, garden clippings, hedge trimmings, small branches, and leaves.

  • DO NOT put large limbs or large stick piles in compost.
