Friday evening, the City of Erie Government announced the death of James Sherrod, longtime leader of the Martin Luther King Center in Erie, and a principal of the Minority Community Investment Coalition.

We are saddened to hear tonight of the passing of Mr. James C. Sherrod.
For nearly 18 years Mr. Sherrod was the Executive Director of the Bayfront NATO, Inc., Martin Luther King, Jr., Center in Erie. Mr. Sherrod was a graduate of Mercyhurst University and was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. He was a member of Omega Psi Fraternity, Inc., was a founding member of the Minority Community Investment Coalition, worked in the social services field for over 30 years, and served on many other boards and organizations.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Sherrod. He will be deeply missed.
