County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper today announced two new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Erie County, and a total of 739 negatives. The total positive cases of COVID-19 in Erie County to date is 29.
Both individuals are in their 30s. Overall contact tracing by Erie County Department of Health continues on all open cases.
The state of Pennsylvania has seen 1,579 new cases and 78 more deaths in the past 24 hours.
The IRS has reported a surge in scam artists perpetrating phishing schemes. Dahlkemper advises the public to beware of phishing scams that are targeting people who are expecting a stimulus payment from the federal government following the outbreak of COVID-19. No action is required for most people receiving stimulus payments.
Dahlkemper also mentioned that trout season has opened statewide for licensed anglers and youth. More guidelines, as well as a video from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission that clarifies the guidelines, are available at eriecountypa.gov.
“The best thing people can do is stay at home to stay ahead of the spread of COVID-19,” Dahlkemper said. “But we do recognize that there are solo activities such as fishing that people can enjoy outside if they continue to practice physical distancing. Anglers and boaters must abide by social distancing guidelines, fish near their homes, wear a mask, and keep their 6-foot distance from one another.”
This week is Public Health Week.
