County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper announces two new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Erie County, and a total of 884 negatives. The total positive cases of COVID-19 in Erie County to date is 37.
Both individuals are in their 60s. Investigations are underway by Erie County Department of Health. One case is in Zone 4 and one is in Zone 5 on the new map (updated Monday through Friday) that reflects the latest cumulative cases by zone on the confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Erie County.
The environmental task force team at Erie County Department of Health continues to make field inspections and work with life-sustaining businesses to help them come into compliance.
Dahlkemper encourages the public to be responsible with information that is sought and shared.
“I understand people are angry and frustrated and scared and bored,” she said. “Make sure you have all the facts from a reputable source. Let’s stay ahead of the spread of COVID-19 in every way.”
This is National Public Health Week, and Erie County has the extreme benefit of having a County health department. In a pandemic, public health workers can’t be visible because of the private nature of personal health. Behind the scenes, they are testing, obtaining and analyzing lab reports, conducting interviews with positive cases, coordinating with healthcare systems, law enforcement, municipalities, emergency services, and more.
“Information regarding COVID-19 changes at a rapid pace,” Dahlkemper said. “Our public health practitioners are working around the clock to bring vital information to the public as soon as it comes available. Public health is just that: overall public health and welfare. I am grateful for everything our public health practitioners do, and I can sleep at night knowing they are always ready to respond with excellence. You should, too.”
