County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper today announced two new positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Erie County. The total confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Erie County to date is 58, with 1,340 negatives and no deaths of Erie County residents. Thirty-one of the 58 total cases have recovered.
Melissa Lyon, director of the Erie County Department of Health, joined the County Executive at the press briefing via Zoom teleconference technology. She outlined the priorities of public health officials that are making the most impact on lowering the curve.
“Our teams have been providing guidance to residents and businesses throughout the pandemic,” Lyon said. “They’ve been communicating with the public through multiple channels. Plus, they have coordinated efforts with public safety officials, local municipalities, law enforcement and other key organizations. Among all of these responsibilities, contact tracing has been the most valuable work we have committed to doing to mitigate the spread of this virus.”
Dahlkemper agreed that the collective effort of everyone has the county moving in the right direction.
“Over the past two months, our community has made incredible strides in flattening the curve,” Dahlkemper said. “Physically social distancing, practicing proper hand hygiene, and masking have made a difference. If we are to continue this trend and reopen the economy, the public needs to continue to practice these methods.”With the masking order in effect, businesses can access several resources that are designed to assist in their compliance.
