County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper today announced three new positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Erie County. The total positive cases of COVID-19 in Erie County to date is 68, with 1,416 negatives and no deaths of Erie County residents. Thirty-nine of the 68 total cases have recovered.

One of the new cases is in their 30s, the other two cases are in their teens. Contact tracing continues by the Erie County Department of Health. All three cases are located in Zone 1, and can be found on the cumulative cases map by zone at eriecountypa.gov

Governor Tom Wolf announced Wednesday night that Northwest and North Central Pennsylvania are expected to begin the process to reopen on May 8.

“We are working with Governor Wolf’s administration to understand what will and will not be reopened during this first phase,” Dahlkemper said. “We are asking for sector-level guidance. This will be a gradual reopening, and it will be done methodically. Keep in mind that when more businesses are reopened, we must remain vigilant to social distancing, hand hygiene and universal masking. If the number of cases rise in our region again, the state will demand our businesses to close again. With this in mind, we are working on a plan with partners to help businesses meet compliance and make this the safest reopening possible.”

Guidance for mask care and disposal is available on eriecountypa.gov. Businesses can access guidance for life-sustaining businesses “Resources” on the COVID-19 page of eriecountypa.gov.
