  • UMPC Park Upgrades III: With another $3 million earmarked this year that was initially announced August 13, 2018 as part of a phased $12 million multi-year grant for improvements to UPMC Park, the investment in the City of Erie totals $23 million in this round.

“Any funding that is invested directly back into our community is vital when we talk about transforming Erie,” said Mayor Joe Schember. Outside dollars, including from the state, really give our economy a boost.  These funds are derived from our tax dollars, and it’s important for us to apply for our fair share so we can put those dollars to work on our community priorities.  Otherwise, these funds will be earmarked for projects in one of the other counties in Pennsylvania. Transformation doesn’t happen overnight, but we can go further faster if we leverage resources.  When these projects are completed in conjunction with the private dollars currently being invested, I have the utmost faith that Erie will thrive.  Since July 2019, there have been investments of $84,167,406 in residential and commercial projects.  COVID-19 slowed us down a bit, but it did not lessen our resolve. I look forward to seeing the progress of these projects in the future.”

Schember continues, “I am also thrilled to see the Community College fully funded. I firmly believe that the location should be somewhere on Erie’s Eastside, and I urge the board to consider how transformational that could be for Erie.”
