The Erie County Department of Health will hold a free Hepatitis A Adult Vaccination Clinic (19 years and older) on February 29 Thursday 2-7p.m. at Perry Hi-Way Hose Company, 8281 Oliver Rd., Erie.

Things to know about this clinic:

  • This clinic is to support customers 19 years and older (dine-in, take out and delivery) of Cracker Barrel (7810 Interstate Dr., Summit Township) during February 15-21, 2024.
  • While the risk of being affected is low, they are recommended to get the vaccine within two weeks after potentially being exposed to hepatitis A.
  • A single shot of the vaccine can help prevent hepatitis A if given within two weeks after exposure. After two weeks, the vaccine is generally not effective as an after-exposure preventive treatment.
  • If you are allergic to neomycin, pregnant or possibly pregnant, you will not be able to get the vaccine at this clinic. Consult your doctor.
  • If you are sick, feeling sick or allergic to latex, you might not be able to get the vaccine at this clinic.
  • For questions about the clinic, call 814-451-6707, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

All customers (dine-in, take out and delivery) during January 30-February 21, 2024 should watch for any symptoms of hepatitis A. It can take 2 to 7 weeks after exposure before symptoms start to appear. If symptoms appear, seek medical attention. They should also wash hands frequently, especially after using the bathroom, changing diapers and before preparing and eating food.

For those who are interested in getting the hepatitis A vaccine, consult your doctor, primary care provider or a pharmacy. Some pharmacies may have the vaccine but availability may be limited. Refer to this map.

Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease. It spreads through person-to-person contact or by eating contaminated food or drinks. Symptoms include fatigue (tiredness), loss of appetite, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, dark urine, joint pain or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), which can last from a few weeks to several months.
