The amount of gun violence in the City of Erie has dropped off significantly in the first half of 2024, according to newly released statistics by the Bureau of Police.
According to Chief Dan Spizarny, recorded shots fired in the first six months this year was 49, compared to 76 the same period last year and 145 in 2022. The number of people shot is even a smaller fraction of previous years. Eight individuals were shot this year compared to 27 and 29 in 2023 and 2022 respectively.
Spizarny told Talk Erie’s Joel Natalie Wednesday that arrests and convictions of gang members using guns had led to the drop in gun activity in the city.
