Thursday on TalkErie.com, Erie Mayor Joe Schember told Joel Natalie that he thought his proposal for a full city tax abatement program called LERTA is close to being approved by the Erie School Board, one of three governmental entities that need to sign off.

“I believe their board is meeting within the next week or so to talk about it. I’m looking forward to hearing if what I think is true that they would accept the proposal, which would be a five-year complete LERTA for residential and commercial,” Schember said.

Both City and County Council will also have to approve the measure, designed to boost new construction and development in the city.
