The Erie County Planning Commission invites interested parties to a public meeting on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Erie County Conservation District, located at 1927 Wager Road. The commission will announce the soon-to-be-completed Erie County Parks, Trails and Recreation Plan.

Attendees will learn information about the plan, and are encouraged to provide input.

This plan is the result of a multi-year planning effort that was made possible by the Erie County Greenways Program. The planning process was facilitated by Alta Planning & Design, a consulting firm that specializes in planning for parks and recreation. The Erie County Department of Planning and Community Development was heavily involved in the project, as were numerous stakeholder groups throughout Erie County.

The purpose of the plan is to set a new direction for the involvement of Erie County in the planning and support of parks, recreation and trails throughout the county. It establishes four focus areas: (1) promote health and equity, (2) set countywide priorities for investment, (3) improve communication with municipalities and county residents, and (4) provide funding and implementation support to Erie County municipalities.

Implementation of this plan will include the establishment of Park Districts to help facilitate multi-municipal collaboration, identify community assets and unify collective needs. The Park Districts will work with the County of Erie to build capacity and promote the shared development of our regional assets.
