Beginning Saturday, April 3rd, all local telephone calls will require dialing the 814 area code plus the seven-digit phone number.
According to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, this development comes a month in advance of opening the new 582 overlay area code, that will be placed in service on May 1st. The PUC said new area code numbers will not be assigned until all available 814 numbers are exhausted.
