Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) and Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) sent letters to Secretary Markwayne Mullin of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) urging for the release of more than $600 million in delayed reimbursements for Pennsylvania Hospitals. This was approved for the COVID-19 funding that was owed to Pennsylvania hospitals and health systems.
Both Fetterman and McCormick were concerned by the delay, especially with the ties to financial strain for healthcare providers across the State of Pennsylvania. McCormick was quoted as saying “Pennsylvania hospitals stepped up during the pandemic when communities needed them most… yet nearly $600 million remains unpaid. These providers upheld their commitment to Pennsylvanians, and the federal government should uphold its commitment to them.”
Fetterman sent a letter on April 29th to Secretary Mullin, stating much of the same concerns that Senator McCormick did.
The $600 million would be released on May 13th, 2026. “I’m grateful to Secretary Mullin and FEMA for releasing these funds to the hospitals in Pennsylvania that provided lifesaving care through a global pandemic and have been waiting for these reimbursements. Our healthcare workers and first responders represent the very best of us, and these hospitals responded heroically for our communities. This is a long awaited relief for them,” said Senator Fetterman.
