A recent article published by the New York Post ranked Erie as being #2 in affordable housing. The article talks about the $239,000 median price for a home, and that homes usually go off the market within a month. This is something that Mayor Daria Devlin has strived for in her campaign, and TalkErie’s own Joel Natalie got to ask the mayor about it firsthand.
Natalie asked what her thoughts were, Mayor Devlin said “Press for Erie is good press, but we want to be thoughtful… What we don’t want is a lot of out-of-town investors coming in and buying (specifically) single family homes.” She remained optimistic saying ” It (the article) is great news, and you love to see it. It’s a reminder for me, as mayor, that we have to protect our residents.”
Mayor Devlin seemed happy that the growth of Erie is being recognized. Natalie followed up saying that pictures focused on the shoreline, and not the areas that may need some work, and Devlin responded by saying “We have both beauty and opportunity (in Erie)”. She focused on the fact that Erie’s growth is for everyone. “As Erie grows, there is a spot for everyone in that growth.”
