Highlighting Continued Progress and Investment in Erie’s Neighborhoods
The City of Erie, in partnership with the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Erie (RACE) and Groundwork Erie, celebrated the completion of phase one of the East Bayfront Greenway Trail during a ribbon cutting ceremony today.
Breaking ground in September of 2025, this project transformed vacant lots, blighted properties, and disconnected spaces into welcoming pocket parks connected by trails that are creating safe, accessible places for neighbors to gather, students to walk to school, and families to enjoy.
“This project is a great example of what can happen when we listen to residents, invest in our neighborhoods, and work together through strong partnerships,” said Mayor Daria S. Devlin. “While today is an important milestone, our work is far from over. We must continue investing in our neighborhoods, improving public spaces, creating opportunities for our young people and families, and making sure every neighborhood shares in Erie’s progress.
“I’m grateful to our partners at RACE and Groundwork Erie for their commitment to this project and to the residents whose ideas and support helped bring this vision to life.”
Mayor Devlin was joined by Aaron Snippet, Executive Director of RACE; members of Groundwork Erie; representatives from the City’s Department of Neighborhood and Economic Development; LaTonya Gamble, East Bayfront resident; and community partners and neighbors who helped celebrate this important investment in the East Bayfront neighborhood.
Phase one of the East Bayfront Greenway Trail marks the next step in preserving and expanding this community asset by officially designating the trail property as public park and greenway land.
