On Wednesday, the Board of the Crawford County Fair issued the following statement:

The Crawford County Fair Board would like to respond and react to the County Commissioner’s discussion regarding plans for the 75th annual Crawford County Fair. We share the Commissioners’ concerns for the safety of our community and like the Commissioners, we have no intention of putting the county communities at undue risk. Given the complexity, the resources, and the level of coordination required to make the Commonwealth’s largest agricultural fair a possibility, the fair board has asked for time to communicate with the numerous entities and organizations in order to finalize a plan, as well as to assess the financial impact of such plans in order to make a responsible decision that protects the health both of the community and the fair itself for future generations.

The fair board will convene for a special session in the next several days to make an official decision collectively as a representative body. The board has also organized a contingency planning committee to evaluate recommendations made by the state fair association and to explore virtual presentations and other opportunities already adopted by other fairs nationwide.

Any delays by the board concerning the fair’s fate were not made in hopes for the best-case scenario, but rather to allow time to make informed decisions regarding finances and overall liability as well as in the best interests of the exhibitors, vendors, sponsors, attendees, and the general public. We thank the community for its patience and understanding in this moment of difficulty and uncertainty we all face. We look forward to your continued support of the Fair.
