Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua Vantassel, a native of Waterford, Pennsylvania, serves the U.S. Navy assigned to USS Theodore Roosevelt, a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier operating out of San Diego, California.

Vantassel graduated from Fort LeBoeuf High School in 2021.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Waterford.

“Growing up, I was taught to always stay true to yourself,” Vantassel said. “There was a motto that was told to me that stated ‘Leave a Legacy’. This also taught me to be a good example to others while remaining independent.”

Vantassel joined the Navy four years ago. Today, Vantassel serves as a gunner’s mate.
